Toronto Film Society nears the end of it's exploration of film noir up on the big screen with a programme that is still full of murder and mystery but with a laugh included.
THERE'S THAT WOMAN AGAIN 1939 d. Alexander Hall with Melvyn Douglas, Virginia Bruce, Stanley Bridges--Channeling the Thin Man series is a rare screening of this fast paced mystery liberally sprinkled with crisp dialogue and deco interiors. A suave PI is hamperedby an overly inqistitive wife-will he solve the murders or murder her! A harmless way of killing time. Rare 16mm print.
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER 1943 d. Richard Wallace with Loretta Young, Brian Aherne, Sidney Toler-- No this is not the famous film of the sinking of the Titanic. But writing a novel can be just as deadly. When a mystery writer and his wife rent a Greenwhich Village basement to soak up atmosphere or his next book, they end up swamped with bodies instead. It's sink or swim in this cheeky comey of murder mystery mayhem.
