The South Florida Community College Jazz Series presents the Benny Goodman Centennial Tribute, Thursday, Jan. 22, 7:30 p.m., in the SFCC University Center Auditorium, Highlands Campus. World-renowned clarinest Allan Vache will be joined by fine stride pianist Mark Shane and acclaimed jazz singer Terry Blaine in bringing to life Goodman's music.

Vache is known as a versatile and exciting soloist at festivals and concerts all around the world. True to Goodman's style of hot swing playing, he maintains a busy performing and recording schedule.

Shane's piano reflects a true sense of living jazz history and continues the tradition of buoyant swing and lyrical melodic improvisation. He played with Goodman and was featured at the 50th anniversary Benny Goodman Memorial Concert at Carnegie Hall. The rhythm section also includes internationally known bassist Phil Flanigan and drummer Ed Metz Jr.

Blaine has gained international attention and recognition as one of today's finest interpreters of classic jazz and swing standards from the 1930s.

To a large extent, Goodman's clarinet and his vocalists helped shape and define the 1930's Swing Era and remain just as entertaining today. With the help of Fletcher Henderson's arrangements, Goodman's big band and small groups had the whole country dancing both at concerts and on the radio.

The 2009 Jazz Series season sponsors include Bill and Lisa Jarrett, Charles and Anne Reynolds, and Highlands Today (Media Sponsor).
