The San Francisco Symphony presents a semi-staged production of "A Flowering Tree," the new opera by John Adams, conducted by the composer and directed by Peter Sellars.

"This SFS co-commission, inspired by The Magic Flute, is an escape into dream and myth and comes on the heels of Adams’s opera Doctor Atomic. Peter Sellars, co-librettist with the composer, returns to direct this semi-staged production. "
A Flowering Tree was commissioned by New Crowned Hope (Vienna), San Francisco Symphony, Barbican Centre (London), Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (New York), and Berliner Philharmoniker.
