SF Sketchfest: The San Francisco Comedy Festival
presents
THE BE-BOP HEROIN HOUR
Friday, January 16
8:00 PM
Purple Onion
140 Columbus Ave, SF
Since it's inception in July 2007, The Be-Bop Heroin Hour has become the darling of the Los Angeles hybrid stand-up/jazz scene. (Take that “Haha Jazz Night” in Diamond Bar!) Hosts Jamie Flam and Hugh Moore invite the best and brightest LA comics to come strut their “stuff” to a backdrop of live jazz music, attempting to evoke the spirit of a 1950’s NY jazz club, or at least what the hosts imagine that spirit was like (blue lights and incense smoke). Past performers have included Maria Bamford, Eddie Pepitone, Ron Lynch, Tig Notaro, Jason Nash, Dan Mintz, and many others, who use the jazz to enhance their set by telling stories over walking basslines, singing jazz standards, or utilizing the free form tenets of jazz music to inspire the delivery of their jokes. “[The Be-Bop Heroin Hour] is one of the most revolutionary, awe-inspiring comedy shows of the 21st Century” says the aforementioned Jamie Flam, eyes asparkle. Come see what all the hype is for yourself.
Joining hosts Jamie Flam and Hugh Moore are guest comics Brent Weinbach, Josh Fadem, Meghan Parks, Vanessa Ragland, Chiara Triska, Mike Phirman and Ron Lynch.
