Ok, here's all you need to know....Culann's Hounds, who have been rocking you for over a decade now with the Irish rock your very soul craves, are coming to Slim's in SF on St. Patricks Day. It is your duty and responsibility to all that is good and right to buy a ticket and help create more joy in this world.
For those of you who want details, here's the personal email description from lead singer, Michael Kelleher....
This year we have a sweet and savory combination for you:
Shana Morrison, North Bay chanteuse, has graciously agreed to come open the show with an acoustic duet starting at 9 PM. Shana has just returned from playing in Belfast and Dublin, and her reputation as a beautiful singer and "rock chick" is touted by none other than Rolling Stone Magazine:
“With a smooth, elastic voice and a style that lands between jazz chanteuse and rock chick, Morrison has won an enthusiastic following.”
—Rolling Stone
Setting up The Hounds is Bay Area old school rockers, Victim's Family. You all know that the hardest rocking bodhran player anywhere is our own Scott Marshall, and it was his brainchild to bring in a little San Francisco straight-rock cred for a Slim's St. Patrick's Day show. When Scott toured with The Nuns, they opened for The Ramones, so he has seen some of the best rock-n-roll from back stage. Victim's Family is in the pocket. The last gig they played was a benefit with Jello Biafra for the San Francisco Rock Project and they head to Europe this Spring for their umpteenth tour of The-Continent-That-Loves-Rock-N-Roll.
As for Culann's Hounds, we are so fortunate to be bringing the strongest line-up of Irish folk rock we have ever delivered. In addition to our hardest hitting Bay Area 5 piece fronted by Mike Kelleher and Steve Gardner and backed by the power and style of Scott Marshall on bodhran, Dan Duffin on electric bass, and Michael Messer on drum kit, we also feature Ockham's Razor's Ruairí Kríostóir Clements, a shredder on the whistle, delightful on the button accordion, and the kind of singer that makes you think Sinead has gone all transgender on us.
And on top of that, we reach extravaganza level by bringing dancing girls. Our dear friend Bernadette Flynn has agreed to come and dance a few step dances at the party to push us over the top.
We all know that virality has reached parity with synergy in the land of the buzz word, but it's not to say that those words have lost their meaning. We believe there will be synergy between the beauty and power of local Shana Morrison, the rockthenticity and heavy hitting of Victim's Family, and the raw-energy and virtuosity of Culann's Hounds. We also hope that you can do your little part to create some synergy in virality. Connect with us on Facebook, Like the other bands, Tweet the show, buy a ticket. Our gratitude for all you do, we hope, is evident.
Twelve years of exploration of how traditional Irish music can be honored, transformed, sullied, and glorified is the current legacy of Culann's Hounds. It was said that it was dangerous to go into battle with Cúchulainn, for his warp spasm was indiscriminate. We aim to be likewise with respect to entertaining you with all that is epic in Irish music. And though there were those who were afraid, he who was born Setanta seemed to always have a friend at his side in battle. We hope you'll be there at our side on the 17th.
