SF City explores owning its own WiFi network September 25, 2006

The city is negotiating with Earthlink/Google for a Commercial WiFi franchise. Some ask if maybe the city should do this like they maintain roads.
Supervisor McGoldrick will discuss:
"Motion directing the Budget Analyst to conduct, on a priority basis, a fiscal feasibility analysis of a City-owned Wireless Network to promote digital inclusion by ensuring affordable internet access, affordable hardware, community-sensitive training and support, and relevant content to all San Franciscans, especially low-income and disadvantage residents."

And the the online (windows) streaming will be available by end of day Tues 9/26 on the earlier link - most of the meeting was the City IT department promoting (droning) on about the Earthlink/Google solution - only the last 15 mins had input from the community.
