The Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco is pleased to present Sergio Leone. L’America, la nostalgia e il mito (2009, Falsopiano Edizioni) a book written by young Italian cinema expert Roberto Donati.
Recently presented in Venice and New York this essay analyzes the deep connection between Sergio Leone’s cinema, America and nostalgia.
Clint Eastwood, James Coburn, Rod Steiger, Lee Van Cleef, Eli Wallach are among the actors that Leone directed and made famous giving them unforgettable roles such as in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, or Duck, You Sucker.
In 1984 he shot Once Upon a Time in America with Robert De Niro and James Woods and overnight it became a masterpiece. All these movies are characterized by an ideal of “anti-hero who is still hunted by his past”, an ideal that was perfectly represented by Eastwood and his distinctive look.
The presentation will be followed by the screening of Sergio Leone's movie-clips.
