On this Saturday, 24 June, the Pacific Cinematheque at 1131 Howe Street, Vancouver, will be holding a charity benefit screening of the film Serenity at 2:15 pm. Tickets are $15 at the door and can also be pre-purchased from the website. Proceeds go to Equality Now, an organization working to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world.
The Vancouver Serenity Now/Equality Now screening is one of forty-seven such screenings around the world. Many door prizes are available to be won, and there is an additional prize for the best costume. (That means, yes, feel free to attend wearing a costume.)
Serenity is the film based on the short-lived television series Firefly, created by Joss Whedon (who also created Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel).
