chamber music at the center
Serenade to Music
One of the most sublime chamber music compositions ever penned, Schubert’s Octet is also one of the most extensive. In a set of six generous movements, the style is in the mood of the classical serenade, a form that suggested outdoor performance and
'entertainment’ music. A short first half gives us complementary views of serenading with compositions by Tchaikovsky, and the wittiest of all composers, Jean Francaix.
