Swiss-American singer/songwriter and cellist Serena Jost celebrates the much-anticipated release of Closer Than Far. Produced by Brad Albetta (Martha Wainwright, Teddy Thompson) and mixed at Monkeyboy Studios in NYC, this stunning debut captures Serena’s lustrous singing and “cerebral, counterintuitive, incredibly catchy songs” which “seamlessly merge classical and pop melodies”. (Lucidculture)
Some of NYC’s tastiest musicians (Julian Maile, Colin Brooks, Brad Albetta, Bill Dobrow, Matt Johnson, Greta Gertler) help bring these remarkable songs to life, while Serena plays cello, guitar and piano. A former member of Rasputina, her cello playing was lauded by The New York Times, “Ms. Jost plays fragments (good ones) on the cello...” (12/07) and she was recently interviewed by Swiss Roots at http://www.helveticabold.net/content/view/36/26/
A captivating live performer who’s been compared to Sandy Denny, Jeff Lynne, and Jane Siberry, Serena will be joined by her trio and some very special guests. Closer Than Far will be available nationwide March 1, 2008.
