The West 7th Community Center will be offering FREE monthly science education classes for seniors. Christina Petersen, who has a BS in Zoology and PhD in Pharmacology will be teaching the classes. Christina recently moved back to St. Paul after living in Nashville Tennessee. Christina is interested in teaching seniors and bringing the world of science into senior lives. She will provide in-depth coverage of each topic and discussion will follow. Refreshments will be provided. For class times and registration deadlines please see below:
Sept 17th – The Bird Flu, Register by September 12
Using the 1918 flu pandemic as an example of a worst-case scenario, viral disease transmission, influenza and vaccine development will be covered. The origin, spread and concerns about the H5Ni influenza A virus will be explained.
Oct. 15th – The Placebo Effect Register by October 10
The powerful effect of the mind and how believing a treatment will work will be explored as an important factor in the healing process. This class will also discuss alternative healing methods.
November – Stem Cell Research (Date TBA)
December – The Science of Happiness (Date TBA)
January – Students Choice (Date TBA)
