Soon, adults 65 and older will constitute 20% of the population, and by 2020, it’s estimated that 12 million older Americans will need long term care, according to a recent article in the Star Tribune.
Anyone anticipating the need for increased safety and comfort for loved ones aging in their home will get all the answers they need at a special presentation on Wednesday, October 12th at 11 am at the Peninsula Volunteer’s Little House in Menlo Park.
Greg Hartwell, CEO and managing director of Homecare California, will present the “7 Key Things to Know Before Hiring In-Home Care in California”. The presentation will cover the benefits of in-home care for aging adults, options for obtaining care, some legal and financial issues, as well as the costs of various care options.
Homecare California offers in-home care for seniors or anyone recovering from a surgery and/or managing a debilitating disease. The company is a local, family-owned, full-service home care organization serving the residents of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and is accredited as a Certified Home Care Aide Organization by the California Association for Health Services at Home.
“I see this seminar as resource for people beginning to navigate the sometimes confusing process of in-home care,” said Hartwell. “My aim is to help people understand what resources are available to them and what questions they should be asking before hiring caregivers.”
Also speaking at the event are Rhonda Bonecutter and Greg McCarthy, founders of Zero Barriers Inc., a company specializing in home accessibility solutions. The duo are physical and occupational therapists and are dedicated to finding the right solutions to make it possible for elders one to live safely and independently in their own home.
They will discuss about tips to avoid falls in the home, ways to expand your home for improved accessibility, new emergency alert technologies for seniors living alone and other home modifications, including equipment that will make it easier to provide care for a loved one at home.
