In an exclusive bi-partisan presentation, New Jersey democrat Bill Bradley and Wyoming republican Alan Simpson will reach across the aisle to take an inside look at the impact of big money on our political system. The two former U.S. Senators will discuss how money influences who runs for office, who gets elected and the ability of elected representatives to remain in office. They will also explain why they now support public funding of federal elections and the reasons behind their affiliation with Americans for Campaign Reform.
Known for his Western wit and scathing honesty, Simpson is considered one of the most notable and memorable legislators in recent political history. Having served in the Senate for 18 years, this Wyoming Republican played a central role in decision-making at the highest level. He served as assistant majority leader, assistant minority leader, and chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee. He also served as director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard Universitys John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Bradley, an American hall of fame basketball player who played for the New York Knicks, Rhodes scholar, and former U.S. Senator, challenged Al Gore for the Democratic Party's nomination for President in 2000. He is currently a managing director at Allen & Company LLC, an investment banking company that serves as investor, underwriter, and broker to some of the biggest names in entertainment, technology, and information. He was elected to the U.S. Senate from New Jersey in 1978, 1984, and 1990. In his new book The New American Story Bradley states, Politics is stuck, but idealism isnt dead. It can be reawakened. He has written five other books, including New York Times bestsellers Time Present, Time Past, and; Values of the Game. In a former life Bradley was a three-time basketball All-American at Princeton, and an Olympic gold medalist.
