The decade from 1857 to 1867 was a tumultuous and defining one in North America. From the Mexican War of Reform and the French intervention through the American Civil War and the creation of the Dominion of Canada, the future of our continent was tested and determined through distinct but inter-related events. We will discuss the leaders and peoples whose ideals overcame political fragmentation and war to establish three lasting unions.
The seminar is led by Joseph Harrington, who holds an M.A. in history from the University of Connecticut and has led numerous Newberry seminars.
