Portland?s own Seekonk plays a bewitching fusion of slowcore, dream pop, and post-rock. And they play a birdcage. We?ve had an early mix of their newest album ?Pinkwood? on our iPods for about a year now, and we?re thrilled that the final version is available for the rest of the world. This celebration of their CD kicks off a cross-country tour. We?re also thrilled about Portlander Robert Stillman?s return (he was here in January with his project ?Horses?) with his four-piece The End of the World. Their urgent sound manages to merge an ethic for thoughtful songcraft with a love for the loud and the unhinged, with influences drawn equally from Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones, and Sonic Youth. Heck, you may have heard their title track for Jonathan Demme?s remake of ?The Manchurian Candidate.?
