Volunteer in the Pendleton Community Garden on Saturday, May 16th from noon – 2:00 p.m. This is the Garden’s official “Seedling Saturday” when seeds and seedlings will be planted in anticipation of a bountiful harvest which will be donated to local food pantries.
The day begins with a program presented by Marilyn Crosley. Marilyn will be in the library’s community room at 10:00 a.m. presenting Black Thumb or Botanist, a program that teaches how to plan a garden plot and properly plant vegetables. Program participants will then head out to the garden to put some of those newly-learned skills to work.
At noon, all garden volunteers will meet in the library’s community room, located at 595 East Water Street, for a short informational session about the garden and how it will positively impact the local Pendleton community. Volunteer planting teams will then be sent into the garden with seed packets or seedlings and planting instructions. If you are interested in volunteering in the garden on May 16th, please call 778-7527.
The Pendleton Community Garden is located next to the library, in front of Brown’s Pool. It is a cooperative project between Falls Park and the Pendleton Community Library. Volunteers have been working for several weeks, preparing the area for planting. The soil has been tested and treated. Peat moss was spread and tilled into each bed. The soil is rich and beautiful. We’re excited to get started with planting, and hope to meet lots of enthusiastic volunteers on May 16th.
