See “Slap Shot” at Midnight! As Midnight at the Tivoli Returns April 25, 2013

Downers Grove, IL – Midnight at the Tivoli is back with the 1977 comedy film “Slap Shot,” starring Paul Newman. Join in on the fun on Friday, April 26th! The film has been recently digitally re-mastered, and will be presented on Tivoli’s new 4K digital projection and sound system. Tickets are priced at only $5 and are available for purchase at the Tivoli Theatre box office, located at 5021 Highland Avenue in Downers Grove.

Considered one of the greatest sports movies of all time, “Slap Shot” (rated R) follows Reggie Dunlop, played by Newman, as the coach of the Charlestown Chief’s minor league hockey team and a skilled con man. Dunlop becomes determined to save the failing team of unreliable and childlike players through violent plays that enthrall the audience. To capitalize on this growing interest, he plants a fake story in the news that a Florida community is interested in purchasing the team to boost the team’s confidence and perhaps even lead to an actual sale. It seems that Dunlop will achieve his goal of winning the league championship and continuing his own hockey career; however things take a turn after meeting the team’s mysterious owner and discovers their true intentions. Ned, with his own views of what is right and wrong in hockey, may come up with an unexpected way to achieve all their goals.
