Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is planning special viewing events of space shuttle Endeavour before the shuttle is transported to its future home in California.
Endeavour will leave Central Florida atop the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft on Sept. 17 bound for Los Angeles and the California Science Center.
On Sept. 14 and 15, Kennedy Space Center will offer a special bus tour that will include a drive-by of Endeavour as it is "mated" to the aircraft, a specially designed Boeing 747. This tour also includes a drive-by of Launch Pad 39-A and the Apollo/Saturn V Center. Price is $20 ($14 for ages 3-11) in addition to regular admission to the visitor complex.
On Sept. 17, folks will be able to view the beginning of Endeavour's final trip. There are limited seats available to view the takeoff from the Shuttle Landing Facility for $40 per person (plus admission).
As part of regular admission that day, guests can watch Endeavour as it crosses 300 feet above the complex's Rocket Garden.
Endeavour is currently in KSC's Vehicle Assembly Building and being prepped for the cross-country trip. Guests who take the special VAB tour are able to come within mere feet of the ship.
