Second Central and Eastern European Forum for Young Legal, Social and Political Theorists May 20, 2010

Inspired by the idea and animated by the experiences of a very successful first Forum in Katowice, Poland in Spring 2009, the Pázmány Péter Catholic University Faculty of Law is happy to announce the Second Central and Eastern European Forum for Young Legal, Social and Political Theorists, a new edition in this conference series to be held on 21 and 22 May 2010 in Budapest, Hungary. We hope that this will be the next step in building up a tradition.

Background

As it was aptly formulated by the organizers in Katowice, "we are dissatisfied with the present situation in which we are unaware of what colleagues from our neighborhood are working on. We hope to create an opportunity to present and discuss papers reflecting main fields of interest of young scholars working at leading universities of our region. This Forum should help them establish contacts and ties with those of similar interests at other places and thus contribute to establishing a genuine community of young legal, social and political philosophers of Central and Eastern Europe. "

This second conference in Budapest will again provide a Forum for sharing experiences, exchanging ideas and establishing ties. We also think about the Forum as an opportunity for younger scholars to present and discuss their work in a scholarly but no-stress and encouraging setting. Alongside the academic program we will also arrange for optional social activities. As you will experience, Budapest, the capital of Hungary is one of the most exciting European cities.

Target audience

The Forum is open for doctoral (PhD) students and post-doctoral researchers specialising in legal, political and social theory. We are expecting applications from young scholars who come from, currently study or work in Central and Eastern Europe, widely understood, including Albania, Armenia, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine.

Papers

The Forum is a two days conference with paper presentations in parallel sessions and ample time for discussion. It is open for both innovative and more traditional research methods in legal theory. Philosophical, historical, comparative and empirical contributions on theoretical issues in law, politics and society are equally welcome. However, we do not accept merely doctrinal or descriptive papers.
