Enjoy a fun filled day with the family and support children in need at the Second Annual Lucas Day fundraiser at Salon 247 (247 Queen St. W, Brampton) on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 12pm-4pm.
Take part in activities for the whole family including silent auctions, clowns, music and face painting! All proceeds will go towards fulfilling some of the dreams of this years Lucas Day recipient, 19 year old Matthew Torres, who has been diagnosed with medullblastoma (brain cancer) and has suffered from seizures and a stroke. Support Lucas Day and help Matthew’s wishes come true.
Lucas Day was created by ten year old Lucas Sanderson Downing, grandson of Councillor John Sanderson. Lucas has been passionate about raising money for cancer research and aid for cancer victims after a fellow schoolmate and friend, Rachel, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma cancer in August, 2008. The first Lucas Day event was held in her honour the summer of 2009 and raised over $4,800.
“Rachel and her family have shown great strength through their experience and have been a huge inspiration in my fundraising efforts,” says Lucas. “I am now more determined then ever to raise as much money as I can to donate to The Canadian Cancer Society for paediatric research.”
Lucas has helped organize many fundraisers in his community, including growing out his hair to be donated for a wig, bottle drives and donating his own birthday and Christmas money in hope of seeing an end to cancer. Lucas has spread the word of his efforts through various speaking events, including an “Evening of Hope” at the North Bramalea United Church which alone raised over $700.
Please help continue the fundraising efforts of Lucas Day this Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 12pm-4pm and encourage others to do the same.
