Join us this weekend for maritime themed free family fun at the Sea Bangor Maritime Festival.
This year there will be even more to do as the festival incorporates Armed Forces Day, which will be celebrated throughout the weekend.
SATURDAY 26th June
The event will start on Saturday morning at 9.45am with a spectacular performance by the Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland in McKee Clock Arena, which will begin the full programme of performances by the Sea Cadet Corps marking Cadet150, which celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Cadet Forces.
Throughout the day, the military drum corps will perform alongside the Sea Cadets who will stage a range of displays including field gun run display, unarmed combat, colour party displays and cadet guard displays.
Saturday’s activities at the McKee Clock Arena will conclude with the Beating Retreat at 6.30pm led by the Royal Marine Band with a Sea Cadet Guard.
The Eisenhower Pier will be a hive of activity all weekend with the HMS Bangor open to the public so you can see close up what life is like onboard, flight simulators, static displays, Bangor Lifeboat open day and visiting helicopter RAF Gannet (subject to operational requirements). A full street theatre programme will entertain the crowds with their hilarious skits and amazing juggling skills.
Alongside all this is the Tented Village on Quay Street at Bangor’s Seafront. A nautical theme will be created in the tented village with fun activities including the fantastic food tent that will provide a culinary celebration of local suppliers of all things fishy to tantalise the taste buds.
In the tented village, the Children’s tent is packed with things to do for the kids including magic & mayhem workshops, the Model boat tent has lots for everyone to see including a model replica of the Titanic and kids can make and sail their own boat. The ever-popular Curiosity tent will feature fun and informative talks including the BBC’s Julian Fowler talking about his Tall Ship Adventure across the Atlantic and live music from local artists.
SUNDAY 27th June
On Sunday the celebration continues at the McKee Clock Arena where at 10am the Northern Area Massed Band will perform to begin the day.
