Scion's King of the Beats (KOTB) - Music Competition June 19, 2006

Starting now, June 2006, Dante Ross & Scion are searching for the next beat producer to be crowned King of the Beats (KOTB).

KOTB is the first contest to target those who create the music – the music producers, not just those who perform it. This high profile beat battle provides aspiring music producers with an opportunity to challenge each other and be judged by legendary producers and a local beatsmith in front of a live audience. The music competition will feature Beat Exchange regional showcases in Los Angeles “Home of the Funk” (Sept.16), Atlanta “Home of the Crunk”, (Oct.3) and New York “The Mecca” (Oct.16) hosted by beat boxing legend Rhazel (The Roots) and featuring performances by Raekwon (Wu-Tang Clan).

Eight contestants for each of the three cities will be selected by a team of industry professionals to engage in four two-on-two battles consisting of three two-minute rounds per event. Each round will have its own set of rules. Requirements will include utilizing four of the same records with each participant creating their beats live with identical beats, competing against each other using the same pre-selected beat, but with the option of using any other records or samples they desire, and showcasing remix talents by being required to either “chop up” one of the twenty-five pre-selected classic breaks or remix a song using a selection of acapellas. Entrants will be expected to recreate all tracks live sans sequencers only allowing the drums to be sequenced/looped.
Each Regional Finalist and one Wild Card Entrant (picked upon review of contest footage), will win $1,000 and a roundtrip flight and hotel accommodations for the Finale (Nov.4) in NYC with a performance by Wu-Tang Clan. At the Finale, one contestant will be crowned Scion’s King of the Beats and awarded a prize package of $5,000, in addition to a year’s worth of bragging rights.

Contestants from across the United States are invited to send their original Mixes/Videos between June 1, 2006 and July 31, 2006.
