The Chicago Council on Science and Technology presents Science in the Second City at the Adler Planetarium and Astrology Museum, 1300 S. Lakeshore Dr., on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. Hosted by Monica Schneider, News Anchor at CLTV/WGN, and Byron Harlon, Former News Anchor at Fox News, the event showcases Chicagoland’s support for education in the areas of science and technology. The evening will include live entertainment, celebrity guests, an intimate look at the 2011 Tesla Model S, and an impressive silent auction, in addition to an elegant dinner and Veev cocktail reception. The Chicago Council on Science and Technology will honor First Robotics, which was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology and Bill Kurtis, legendary television journalist, producer, narrator, and news anchor. Additionally the council will announce its first scholarship fund. Event chairs include Bob Arthur, President of Magellan Corporation, and Toni Barrios, Illinois State Representative.
Throughout the evening, live music will be provided from JC & the Uptown Sound, along with a grand display of vehicles from Tesla Motors, which uses proprietary technology, world-class design, and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to create a new generation of highway capable electric vehicles. Guests will also be able to bid on superb silent auction items, such as a three-day Vacation Getaway Package to Orlando and the ultimate Chicago Sports Fan Package, which includes tickets to see the Bulls, Bears, Sox, Cubs, Blackhawks, and additional sports perks. Additional silent auction items include an original work of art from the Peter Mars Gallery, the Night in Second City Package, and the Auto Package, which includes two VIP tickets to the Chicago Auto Show, a test drive from TESLA motors, detailing from Top Store, and a driving lesson at the Autobahn Country Club.
The Chicago Council on Science and Technology relies on its active supporters who have chosen to support the organization based on the concerted effort to enhance the science and technology dialogue in Chicago. Science in the Second City provides an opportunity to recognize and give visibility to its patrons while celebrating a night of science and technology. Guests are encouraged to wear cocktail attire.
Tickets for the event start at $125 per person and $175 per couple. Tables for ten people can be purchased for $2,500. Proceeds for the tables will be donated to the Chicago Council on Science and Technology. Those who choose to donate a table will receive a VIP reception.
