Automobiles are the world’s most recycled consumer product. Each year, more than 14 million tons of steel is recycled from end-of-life vehicles. However, while automotive steel can be recycled, tons of waste is left behind when cars are shredded to recover metal. In fact, about 100,000 tons of polyurethane foam ends up usually in land fills. Come check out its ground-breaking facility and see how Argonne scientists have developed innovative technologies to recycle foam, plastic and rubber from recycled vehicles.
