Many neurological and psychiatric disorders occur as the result of changes in neuronal activity in brain circuitry. Medical therapy has generally been the main approach to the treatment of these disorders. However, in many of these disorders, medical therapy either is not effective or loses its effectiveness over time. As a result, new modes of therapy have been developed, one of which is the use of electrical stimulation applied to structures in the brain. This therapy has gained widespread application for a number of neurological and psychiatric disorders. How it works remains a question that invokes considerable debate in the scientific community.

Join two experts from the Cleveland Clinic to discuss what we know - and don't know - about this method's application and mechanism of action.
