Mawson Lakes Boulevard
Mawson Lakes, South Australia 5095

The aim of the event is to offer a day out for school students (Friday) and for families (Sunday) that will expose young people to science and technology, and to the important role it plays in our society. Activities have been organised to introduce people to solar cars, insects, robots, chemistry experiments, home energy use, and virtual reality.

The Friday event is designed for school students (Year 8, 9, and 10) to be involved in a range of science activities. The day will be designed to allow the students to be involved in two sessions in the morning and one in the afternoon, each session hosting one activity which they will register in before the event. Professor Sir Harry Kroto, Nobel Prize winner, will be running an afternoon workshop on Nano-Technology. Professor Sir Harry Kroto will be visiting Australia as part of National Science Week. Throughout the day there are continuous activities that children can see and be involved in.

Schools can register to be a part of Science at the Lakes at: www.unisa.edu.au/scienceatthelakes

The Sunday event is designed for families, and will give them the opportunity to become involved in various science related activities. The activities are aimed at increasing the public?s awareness of science and technology. For example, sessions on ?Renewable Energy: Why is it important?? and ?Sustainable Urban Habitats? allow participants to explore the key features involved in creating a sustainable urban habitat, balancing the needs of local flora and fauna with the needs of people in community settings, whilst in an interactive and practical way.
