WHO: Students in grades 6-8
WHAT: Can now register for Science Alive. Science Alive is an annual conference for middles school students featuring hands-on activities that make science fun. Science Alive draws over 300 middle school students from around the Bay Area.
WHY: Science Alive is presented by the Gavilan College Math Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) program, The Gavilan College Math Department, and the Gavilan College Educational Foundation. Science Alive helps young students to connect with science, and also gain exposure to a college campus. Parent workshops are designed to help parents better support their students' interests and educational goals.
The program includes:
* Workshops for students with hands-on math, science and computer enrichment activities/demonstrations.
* Parent workshops on education, financing the cost of college and more.
* Lunch, raffles, prizes, and more!
Students can choose among 20 different workshops, including Crystal Growing, GavTV, Slime Time, The Secret Life of Strawberries, Is it Going To Rain?, A Cow's Eye View, CSI, and more.
Parents are invited to participate in: Financial Aid: Money For College, Preparation for High School and College - What Parents Should Know, Living With Your Adolescent, Help Your Child Succeed in Math and Science, and Yoga.
Presenters include current and former Gavilan College MESA Students, Gavilan College math and science instructors, and guests from Schmahl Science Workshop, the UCSC Genome Bioinformatics Group, Gilroy Veterinary Hospital, the Gilroy Fire Department, Gilroy High School, and UCSC physics students.

The $10 registration fee includes the workshop and lunch. A limited number of need-based scholarships will be available.
