WHAT: Science Alive is a one day conference consisting of hands-on science workshops for middle school students, grades 6-8. Over 300 students from around the Bay Area register for these workshops every year.
WHY: Science Alive helps young students to connect with science in a college setting. Every year, the Gavilan College Math Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) program, the Gavilan College Math Department, and the Gavilan College Educational Foundation work together to plan this event.
Students can choose from 22 different workshops, including Magic with Physics, Build a Hovercraft, CSI: Where the Evidence Never Lies, and Build A Racer, to name a few. Students will also enjoy lunch, raffles, prizes, and more!
WHO: Presenters include current and former Gavilan College MESA Students, Gavilan College math and science instructors, and guests from the Schmahl Science Workshop, San Jose State University, CSUMB, the UCSC Genome Bioinformatics Group, and the Chabot Space & Science Center.
