'Saving Face: Portraits From the Collection of Robert Infarinato.' There are probably more pictures of the human face than any other subject in the history of photography. Yet the artistry that combines likeness with character or mood, while conveying a deeper understanding of the subject, is all too rare. The collection assembled by Bucks County resident Robert Infarinato is rich with masterful portraits by such renowned photographers as Ansel Adams, Ruth Bernhard, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Imogen Cunningham, Philippe Halsman, Lotte Jacobi, Arnold Newman, and Man Ray. The collection especially features subjects who have made their mark in the arts, including such painters as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Pierre Bonnard, and Georgia O'Keeffe; jazz musicians Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington; dancer Martha Graham; photographer Alfred Stieglitz; writer Simone de Beauvoir; and celebrities Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, and Lotte Lenya. In addition to images by some of the most renowned photographic portraitists, the exhibition will present work by younger and lesser known photographers whose work holds its own with these established masters, as well as examples of the portraits of Bucks County photographer Jack Rosen.
