For the first time in Larimer County, Dream Theater Colorado, Waste Management, LG Electronics, TRI-102.5 and 99.9 The Point, and the Food Bank for Larimer County have partnered to offer a residential consumer electronics recycling event called “Save the Planet, Feed your Neighbors” on Saturday, November 19 from 9 a.m. to noon.
A suggested $10 donation is requested per vehicle. Northern Colorado residents are encouraged to bring in any of their consumer electronics for recycling with a 1 television and 1computer monitor per vehicle limit. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Food Bank for Larimer County.
The local non-profit is serving an estimated 13,000 Larimer County residents monthly in its Food Share pantries with locations in Fort Collins, and Loveland. Each $10 donation will provide 40 meals to those struggling with hunger in Larimer County.
What we accept:
Any brand of household consumer electronics, including televisions, computer monitors, computer systems, VCRs, DVDs, phones, stereos, cables, computer mice, laptops, printers, scanners, fax machines, keyboards, UPS, rechargeable batteries, routers, hubs, switches, PDAs, GPS units, and mobile phones.
What we do not accept:
Microwaves, smoke alarms/detectors, fire alarms/detectors, thermometers, dehumidifiers, large appliances and medical equipment.
No business or commercial recycling will be available at this event.
Collection Location:
Dream Theater Colorado
5100 S. College Avenue, Fort Collins
Recyclers should enter Dream Theater Colorado’s south entrance via Fossil Creek Parkway.
Regarding the destruction of computer data, Waste Management has a shear at their Denver plant which will be utilized to cut each hard drive into four pieces, it will then be sent to a local shredder (audited by Basal Action Network) and shredded into small pieces which are smaller than a .50ct piece. This procedure protects donors from hackers reading or stealing data.
Recycling fees for the event have been generously paid for by LG Electronics. Electronics recycling is expensive with costs averaging about $25 for a TV and $12 for a computer monitor.
