Save Hangar One Public Meeting August 24, 2008

The Navy built Hangar One to house the gigantic airship U.S.S. Macon in 1932 on land donated by Bay Area Citizens. It is a monument to innovation and service, an icon of the Peninsula, and one of the world’s largest freestanding structures. Some of the materials used in its construction are now known to be toxic and can be cleaned to restore our Landmark.

In a new environmental report (EE/CA), the Navy has proposed to remove the cladding and coat the steel structure leaving the burden on the community to make it usable again.
