SATURDAY NIGHT ROLLER DERBY AT DEL MAR FAIRGROUNDS

San Diego, CA — After extreme popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, roller derby is making a fierce return and is quickly reclaiming its place in American culture.


Donning quad-rollerskates, the San Diego Derby Dolls are proud to present their 2009 home season at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The Dolls will host their home bouts at the Wyland Center which claims 30,800 square feet and has a seating capacity of up to 3,000.


The San Diego Derby Dolls is the area's first amateur, all-female, flat and banked track roller derby league. The league is a sister league to the LA Derby Dolls, an all-female banked track league. San Diego's league consists of:
· Two flat track home teams, Diego Rollers and San Diego Hard Corps
· One flat track all-star travel team, San Diego Flat Track- Wildfires
· One banked track team, The Swarm
The San Diego Derby Dolls 2009 season is currently 2-0 with wide-margin victories against the O.C. Roller girls at the season opener at Del Mar's Wyland Center and against Arizona Roller Derby away at Phoenix, AZ.


All the action is unscripted as jammers from each team try to score points by sprinting past opposing players, called blockers. Blockers may play offensively while trying to help their jammer through the group of blockers known as 'the pack' while also playing defensively trying to stop the opposing team's jammer. See all the hard-hitting action at Del Mar Fairgrounds Saturday, February 21st at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar, CA as the San Diego Derby Dolls' home team, the Diego Rollers, battle it out on the track with the Inland Empire Derby Divas. Doors open at 6:00pm, bout starts at 7:00pm.
Tickets are available at www.derbydolls.com: General Admission is $13 (online) and $15 (at the door). VIP bleacher seating for all is $20. Kids 12 and under $7, Kids under 7 FREE!! Discounted tickets are available through Goldstar online and at the door with a print-out of your Yelp! profile. A cash bar is provided for those 21 and up. Merchandise will be available for purchase, cash only. Del Mar event parking fees apply.

San Diego's banked track team, The Swarm, take on L.A.'s Varsity Brawlers at the L.A. Doll Factory Saturday, February 28th at 1910 Temple St., Los Angeles, CA. Look out to the audience and you may see stars such as Drew Barrymore while listening to Gene Simmons of KISS belting out the national anthem. You won't want to miss the fast-paced, adrenaline-filled excitement of the banked track!

Don't just cheer on the Derby Dolls… BE a Doll! The San Diego Derby Dolls are always recruiting and have an excellent boot camp program for any level! Equipment, skates and instruction is provided.
