Sarah’s songwriting brings together rock, country, and punk, inviting comparisons to a broad spectrum of artists including Hazel Dickens, Patti Smith, Gram Parsons, Lucinda Williams, and Ryan Adams. Her talent for songwriting received national accolades at the 2007 Mountain Stage New Song Contest where she won Best Song for “Sweetheart”, the title track from her most recent EP. Sarah has shared the stage with a variety of acts such as Bonnie Prince Billy, Hall & Oates, Ben Folds Five, Loudon Wainwright III, Lilys, Chuck Prophet, King Wilkie, Justin Jones, and Michael Hurley. Sarah’s sound has gained a punk-inspired attitude and energy with the new line-up of her backing band the Pearls, an eclectic group of seasoned rock, punk and country veterans featuring Ted Pitney (King Wilkie) and Jason Butler (Whitebird) on guitars, Michael Bishop (GWAR, Kepone, The Guilty) on bass, and Stuart Gunter (Wrinkle Neck Mules) on drums.

David Shultz and The Skyline steadily craft songs of both undeniable immediacy, and curious timelessness. Rather than writing a steady flow of songs – night and day, good and bad – the Richmond Va songwriter and his band are content to move at their own pace. Nearly two years after Shultz’s self-titled bare-boned debut, David Shultz and The Skyline have completed the careful construction of the 11 new songs that have become Sinner’s Gold. This is an album of songs stemming from a vast array of emotional and philosophical outlets and dead ends. There are songs with such a clear sense of pop craftsmanship that they could find their way to popular radio. Conversely, there are songs so intimate that you may want to claim them for yourself, co-conspiring with the music and lyrics in a private world.
