Sarah Sze began showing her intricate installations of found objects, cast off bits of daily life, hardware and other assorted objects in the late 1990s at the Soho Annual and at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York. Solo exhibitions of her work have been presented at Institute of Contemporary Art, London, and Musee d’Art Modern de la Ville de Paris, France (1998); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and the Foundation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Paris (1999); the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2002); The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2003); the Fondazione Davide Halevim, Milan, Italy (2004) and at Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York (2000, 2005). Sze was also recently commissioned to create a public sculpture for the Public Art Fund in 2006, commissioned to install a major work at the Seattle Opera in 2005 and was a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship in 2003.
