Sara Serpa began her classical piano and voice studies as a precocious seven-year-old in her home city of Lisboa, Portugal before enrolling at the Luis Villas Boas Jazz School in 2002 and Berklee College of Music in 2005. Her ethereal voice has graced the stages of Hot Clube de Portugal, the Regatta Bar and Ryles Jazz Club in Boston, and New York's Village Vanguard, Jazz Standard and Cornelia Street Cafe. The Boston Globe hails Sara Serpa as a vocal artist "unique beyond words." She sings a distinctive combination of traditional and contemporary jazz, often performing her wordless originals where she uses her voice as an instrument.
