The Santa Barbara Symphony’s 60th year celebration opens with a festive tribute to Santa Barbara by local American composer Emma Lou Diemer, former composer-in-residence of the Santa Barbara Symphony. André Watts, recently honored with the National Medal of Arts, kicks off the season with Rachmaninoff’s romantic Second Piano Concerto, famous for its soaring melodies and heard in numerous Hollywood movies. Beethoven’s Fifth, an emblem of classical music, embodies its composer’s revolutionary genius.
