Special Program: Shining a Light on SBCGS Genealogical Gems!
In the spirit of community service on President’s Day and the leftover warmth of Valentine’s Day, February is a great time to illuminate SBCGS’ talents and skills. As promised, our February’s program features a Member Share “love story” or two that you’re sure to find inspirational, entertaining and maybe even touching.
We will shine the light on the immense genealogical gems that reside in our society membership. As you can imagine in a genealogical community almost 500 strong -- most with at least a decade of family history experience under their belts -- we have a vast array of genealogical resources right here in Santa Barbara.
Did you know we have SBCGS members who can:
• Advise how to protect Great Aunt Ethel’s 80 year old newspaper clippings
• Chronologically date photos by period hairstyles and clothing
• Decipher paternal lineage DNA results
• Obtain a thorough and complete Civil War service record from NARA
• Manage a One-Name Study
• Read Norwegian baptismal records
• Make “The Master Genealogist” (TMG) sing
Think of the skills that you’ve picked up over the years by which another member could benefit. Also consider a situation where a member has helped you with your research and consider acknowledging that act of generosity. Send in your talents, special skills and appreciation to be included in the advance program details to Mary E Hall (mehall2@cox.net).
We guarantee you’ll find some useful resource for your own genealogical pursuits within our midst and will also have the heartwarming benefiting of passing on some knowledge or expertise to a grateful family historian. It’s o.k. to extol the virtues of a particularly shy or humble member…in fact, we encourage it! There is ample free parking in the church’s lot and the facility is handicapped accessible. For additional information, please contact Mary Hall.
Come and join us on February 21, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 E. Constance Avenue at State Street. Please park in the upper lot off of Constance.
Special Interest Groups start at 9:30 a.m. and are a great way to start your morning.
Come early and plan to participate in a group and enjoy refreshments and coffee.
