A magical evening, evoking the mystical beauty of the river Ganges, with two of the greatest virtuosos of Indian music. Their very first performance in Montreal!

This evening will feature sitarist Pandit Kushal Das, one of the most promising sitarists from India today. He is acclaimed to be the hope in bringing back the golden era of sitar, performing in the style of the late, great Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. His soulful music carries an image of aesthetic sense, rich tonal quality, strong techniques, and deep traditional presentation.

He will be accompanied by tabla player Pandit Kumar Bose, one of the great percussion maestros of India , and who has the rare distinction of having performed with Pandit Ravi Shankar during his world tours from 1980 to1994. He is in great demand as a tabla soloist, and as accompanist to many of India ’s top artists.

The evening will begin with a kathak dance recital by talented and dynamic dancer, Sudeshna Maulik, accompanied by Montreal-based tabla player Shawn Mativetsky (disciple of Pandit Sharda Sahai of the Varanasi tabla gharana). Sarodi player, Raja Bhattacharya (disciple of Ustad Bidyut Khan) joins the ensemble.
