Sandstorm© is a fact based drama about the awakening conscience of a police officer forced to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in China.
Sandstorm tells the story of Hetian Ying, a mid-level Chinese police officer. For twelve days and nights, he and his wife are trapped in their home during a massive sandstorm covering a large area of China. They are devastated that their young daughter is missing in the storm, electricity and phone communication have been cut off, and their food, water and medical supplies are running out. Caring for his dying wife in this isolation, Hetian Ying’s conscience starts to emerge. As a policeman, he was involved in the horrific persecution of common Chinese citizens who follow the spiritual practice of Falun Gong—a practice, based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance, which is in sharp contrast to Chinese government dictates.
Award-winning actor and President of Requisite Films, Michael Mahonen wrote and produced the film while delivering his directorial debut.
