Sandra Gamarra is fascinated by the parallels between artistic and mystical experiences. For this exhibition at the Bass Museum, the artist has made new paintings based on photographs that she has taken of visitors looking at works of art in the Museum's galleries. Also on display will be 'Nimbos,' a sculpture made of metal areolas, and 'Salmos,' a sound installation. Nimbos and Salmos reference elements of religious ritual that, when taken out of their original context, generate new tensions between spiritual and aesthetic responses.
