Navy Days
As you have heard, we have another Navy ship (a brand new destroyer) coming to San Pedro.
Last year, as you know, we had (4) Navy ships in port with 4,000 sailors but the sailors were advised to stay away because of a recent crime and we want you to know that issue has been resolved and the sailors are coming to your town.
The reason we only have on ship this year, is because all the other ships are in Hawaii doing a huge naval exercise with 20 other Nations called “RimPac” rim of the pacific.
Last year we had parking and traffic problem, this year we have great plans to address this. Last year we had the public standing in line for hours in the sun to tour the ships, this year we have them waiting building and also educating them about the importance of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) and also a STEM Expo for Kids. Navy Days is trying to add another yearly event to make San Pedro a destination city.
Navy Days – LA’s missions are to educate the public about the readiness of our fleet and about our Sea Services in general. We also support the youth in the Sea Cadet program and now the STEM Expo for Kids. And finally we support the men and women of the Sea Services and their families by really taking good care of them while they visit San Pedro/Los Angeles. If the Sailor have a great time on liberty then their Command will be happy which increases the likelihood of sending more ships. Next year we are requesting (4).
