THE SAN FRANCISCO MIXTAPE SOCIETY LAUNCHES AN EVENT SERIES DEDICATED TO THE ART OF MAKING AND EXCHANING MUSIC MIXES
The San Francisco Mixtape Society has announced the theme of “Cities vs. Towns” for its inaugural music mix exchange and contest, to be held at San Francisco’s Make-Out Room, on January
31, 2010. This quarterly event, which is open to the public and free to attend, is dedicated to the art of making and exchanging music mixes. Attendees are invited to assemble a mix according to the theme in
any format, whether cassette, CD or USB.
Mixes will be traded over the course of the evening through a spirited raffle, hosted by music supervisor Annie Lin (The Rights Workshop) and art director John Verrochi (Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners). All attendees who bring a music mix will leave the event with a mix made by someone else. Additionally, all attendees and a panel of judges will be able to cast votes for the mixes with the best track listings and artwork. The makers of the winning mixes will receive sponsored prize packages valued at up to $50.
During the event, DJ Diego Baptista will spin an eclectic set of music against the backdrop of a video art installation featuring works from Bay Area artists. The video art installation will be curated by
designer Emie Lee (By Emie) and photographer Jen Giese (Photojojo).
