The 28th annual holiday musical spectacular, featuring the full complement of 300 voices that comprise the San Francisco Girls Chorus and Chorus School, fills Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco on Tuesday, December 21, at 7:30 p.m. The centerpiece in a trio of holiday concerts, "Tidings of Great Joy" will feature the five-time Grammy(R) Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus and all levels of the San Francisco Girls Chorus School in a joyous program celebrating the sounds of the season with a popular audience sing-along of favorite carols. Two substantial works: "Sir Christemas", a bold, energetic setting by David Brunner of an anonymous Renaissance text; and Daniel Pinkham's "Christmas Cantata" ground a program of soaring holiday joy that includes percussion, a brass quintet and organist Rudy de Vos. Festive works by Britten, Eleanor Daley and others will also be heard on the evening concert led by Artistic Director Susan McMane.
