San Francisco Festival of the Mandolins April 13, 2008

Historic gathering of mandolin orchestras. For the first time ever all 5 SF Bay Area Mandolin Orchestras will be performing on the same program! Hear the AURORA MANDOLIN ORCHESTRA, GRAVENSTEIN MANDOLIN ORCHESTRA, INSTANT KLEZMER MANDOLIN ORCHESTRA, SAN FRANCISCO MANDOLIN ORCHESTRA, AND SILVER STRINGS ENSEMBLE. Top it off with a guest appearance by mandolinist extraordinaire, TOM ROZUM, backed up by LAURIE LEWIS, TONY MARCUS & PAUL SHELASKY. Add the BYO Mandolin Orchestra (Bring Your Own), all the mandolin workshops and panels, and you have day that cannot be missed.

In it's eight year the festival continues to offer the widest spectrum of mandolin music available in California. The performances begin at 1PM and continue to 6PM.

In the morning from 10:30AM -12 there will be workshops with the performers. Everyone is welcome to play in the BYO Mandolin Orchestra. At noon there will be a panel of orchestra leaders. Food and drink will be served from 1PM.

This is a rare chance for mandolin players from classical to bluegrass to jazz to share traditions and learn from masters and from each other. It is also an opportunity for those interested in mandolin music to see its broad use and enjoy the music as performed by some of the most outstanding musicians today.
