There is growing interest in handcrafted clothes, jewelry, beads, and textiles, and shows such as San Francisco Bead and Design Show have become important for the promotion of contemporary and traditional handcrafts.
This show, which recently moved to a larger location at Hyatt Regency SFO, takes place on November 19th, 20th, and 21st. It features a wide range of fabulous art clothing, jewelry, gemstones, gold, silver, textiles, contemporary and vintage beads, millinery, antiquities –along with workshops and DIY projects.
Show promoters have assembled a significant group of national and international artists and designers, who create exceptional products, hard to find luxury goods, and one-of-a-kind items. Attendees can visit more than 200 displays, galleries, and artist booths, in one location –exhibits by the finest artists, artisans, and merchants, who are chosen for the quality and creativity of their work.
Many exhibitors are from the Bay Area and include prominent gemstone merchants Anil Kumar, Gemini Gems, and Jewelry by Kia, offering highest quality hand-cut gemstones at the best price. Show Director Anna K. Johnson says “My purpose is to put together an elegant and evocative show, selecting the finest exhibitors –and this November we are happy to have Peninsula artisans exhibiting with us”.
Jill Pillot, from Menlo Park, will exhibit and sell her wearable works of art clothing, and teach a workshop on reinventing old clothes; Cedide Olcay, owner of the Palo Alto gallery “Orapa Gallery of Wearable Arts,” creates a line of felted, hand sewn clothing, accessories, and fiber jewelry; Marion Hunziker-Laren, whose studio is in Redwood City, is well-known for exclusive, handmade jewelry that combines micro-macramé, Cavandoli knotting, half-hitching, Kumihimo silk cord making with gemstones and beads; Jennifer Osner Antique Textiles of Daly City is a supplier of antique textiles, beads, fine vintage lace, millinery supplies, ribbons, and findings; and Palo Alto’s Wo Schiffman’s exquisitely embellished textile handbags.
