Step back in time and discover the activities and playthings that American Girls like Samantha and her friends would have enjoyed in 1905 at Maymont’s “Samantha’s World” on Tuesday, July 21 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Children will explore the Victorian mansion and grounds, take a carriage ride, and play old-fashioned games. The morning will conclude with a special tea on the porch for participants and their dolls!
During a lively tour of Maymont Mansion, children will discover the upstairs and downstairs of the Dooleys’ grand house and imagine what it would be like to sleep in a swan bed. Then Victorian ladies will lead everyone on a scavenger hunt through Mrs. Dooley’s gardens in search of special places and maybe even a secret garden! The children will feel like Samantha as they make old-fashioned keepsakes, play games and hear stories that kept young ladies amused 100 years ago.
The program is for children ages 7-11. The fee is $25 per child/$20 for Maymont members. Registration is recommended. Maymont Mansion is located at Maymont’s Hampton Street entrance at 1700 Hampton Street; free parking is available. To register, call Maymont at 804-358-7166, ext. 329.
