Heyday Books publisher Malcolm Margolin and California writers and editors Herbert Gold, Aris Janigian and William E. Justice offer their reflections on Saroyan's life and work. Introduction by Inez Cohen, Library Director.
New publications by Heyday Books will be on sale after the panel and throughout the day: He Flies through the Air with the Greatest of Ease: A William Saroyan Reader edited by William E. Justice (2008) and Forgotten Bread: First Generation Armenian Writers, edited by David Kherdian (2007)
2:30 pm Documentary film: "William Saroyan: The Man, The Writer"
Writer and director Paul Kalinian presents his award-winning documentary, followed by a discussion with the audience.
4:00 pm Dramatic readings: Local actors including Bruce Bierman, Max “Power” Chervin, Eric Friedman and Laura Sheppard will
present dramatic readings of some of Saroyan's best short stories.
Direction by Suzanne Stassevich. Set decoration by Kathleen Blake.
5:00 pm Armenian Café
5:30 pm Film: The Broadway production (1976) of "The Time of Your Life"
starring Kevin Kline and Patti Lupone. Introduction by Cinemalit Film Curator, Michael Fox.
