The Salt City Slam Team Selection Finals will determine who will represent Salt Lake City at the most prestigious performance poetry competition in the country, the National Poetry Slam, taking place this August in Cambridge, MA. Since 1995, Salt Lake City has gained notoriety through their unique and innovative performances, finishing 8th out of 72 teams in the last two years at the National Poetry Slam.
The poets that will be competing are the top ten performing poets in the Salt Lake City area that have been participating in preliminary poetry slams since September of last year. Entering the fray will be three members of last year's team: Women of the World Poetry Slam finalist, DeAnn Emett, two-time Individual World Poetry Slam runner-up, Jesse Parent, and 2012 SLC Individual World Poetry Slam representative, Gray. They will be defending their spots on the team against a slew of talented and formidable poets, including Ben Barker, RJ Walker, David Alberti, Nick Shifrar, and several others.
