Saga of Traditions - A group exhibition of mural artist from Kerala and contemporary folk artists from Gond (Madhya Pradesh). This is an exhibition of 18 works by artists Nankusia Shyam, Durga Bai Vyam, National award winners from Gond and Sreeraj V P from the mural traditions of Kerala. Keeping their roots alive these artists have contemporized their art forms using narratives from folk lore, the social and rural landscapes and their mythical symbols of rituals in their art. Vibrant in colours, forceful and spontaneous with an inherent childlike spontaneity makes us curious to explore the roots and sagas of tradition immersed in these paintings. Their creativity emerges with tradition and individual ideas a combination of which has seen their works becoming a part in the collections of many serious art collectors. Folk Art: Folk arts are the stories which are passed down the centuries through their art, stories of daily living, the beliefs they embrace and live with, the rituals and ceremonies which they immerse in as they celebrate life. They express this living in their paintings and murals an expression which is constantly evolving and yet grounded in their deep rooted tradition. About Gond Art and artists background: Innocent, vibrant and breaking out of traditional modes are National Award winners Gond artists Nankushia Shyam, Burga Bai Vyam from the lineage of the internationally famed gond artist Jangadh Singh. Both these artists have contemporarized folk art as they create image on canvas of trees of life, animals, mythical figures, Dots are connected closely in vibrant colours to form the images with a mood of spontaneous vigour. Many well known collectors are including these works in their private collections and these artists have shown internationally too. Kerala Mural Art and artists background: Kerala mural artist Sreeraj V P uses the ancient mural tradition to create contemporary and traditional images. The artist uses a vibrant colour palette of orange, green, yellow and red with fluidity to create his compositions. Colours merge spontaneously as the images create itself and leave us with a tranquil mood of happiness and tranquility. As we look deeply into the paintings created by the folk artists we explore the saga of their existence which is rooted within the traditions of their artistic expressions.
