The Cartoon Art Museum and The Consulate General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest are proud to present Israeli children's book illustrator, cartoonist, editor and Graphic Novel author Rutu Modan for a presentation and book-signing on Thursday, October 18th from 7pm to 9pm. Modan will be speaking about and signing her first full-length graphic novel, Exit Wounds, a powerful tale of a man¹s search for his father, who is presumed to be killed in a suicide bombing.

Modan has received several awards in Israel and abroad, including the Best Illustrated Children's Book Award from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem four times, Young Artist of the Year by the Israel Ministry of Culture and is a chosen artist of the Israel Cultural Excellence Foundation.

This event is presented with the support of The Consulate General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest. Additional support has been provided by the Cartoon Art Museum and the Israeli Center of the Jewish Federation of San Francisco.

About Exit Wounds:
Set in modern-day Tel Aviv, a young man, Koby Franco, receives an urgent phone call from a female soldier. Learning that his estranged father may have been a victim of a suicide bombing in Hadera. Koby reluctantly joins the soldier in searching for clues. The father¹s death would certainly explain his empty apartment and disconnected phone line. As Koby tries to unravel the mystery of his father¹s death, he finds himself not only piecing together the last few months of his father¹s life, but his entire identity. With thin, precise lines and luscious watercolors, Modan creates a portrait of modern Israel, a place where sudden death mingles with the slow dissolution of family ties.

Exit Wounds is the North American graphic novel debut from one of Israel's best-known cartoonists, Rutu Modan, and has been nominated for the televised 2007 Quill Awards for graphic novels.

About Rutu Modan:
Rutu Modan is one of Israel ¹s best-known cartoonists. Born in Tel-Aviv in 1966, she has received much recognition for her work, including four Best Illustrated Children¹s Book Awards from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. The Israel Ministry of Culture named Rutu Modan the Young Artists of the Year in 1997, she has been a chosen artist of the Israel Cultural Excellence Foundation since 2005, and her work has received nominations for Eisner, Ignatz and Angoulême awards. She currently lives in England with her family, and will be on tour in select North American cities in October 2007, with the generous support of the Consulate General of Israel.
